14 DAY TRIAL // Although it's not one of those A-list relationships that keep the tabloids happy, the marriage of the 2 actors has stolen some headlines before. And now Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have decided to part ways.
A representative for the couple told People Magazine that they indeed have chosen to go on separate ways after 10 years of being a couple. Idina and Taye have been married since 2003 but they had been dating for a longer time.
"Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs have jointly decided to separate at this time," says the rep. Menzel, 42, and Diggs, also 42, met for the first time on the set of the Broadway musical "Rent" in the mid 1990s and became an item shortly after.
Earlier this year, reports about the marriage said it wasn't all rainbows and pink butterflies. At the time, Idina, a Tony Award winner for “Wicked Frozen,” said she found it hard to balance her career with being mother. She and Tanye welcomed their first child, a boy named Walker, in September of 2009.
"We work at it," she said at the time. "I'm not going to glamorize it or glorify it – we go through tough times like everybody else, but we love each other very much. We try not to be away from each other for more than two weeks at a time, and we try to find new ways to communicate," she concluded, hinting at some possibly troubled times in their relationship.
As the couple celebrated 10 years of marriage last summer, there were some rumors of infidelity present in the media.
“The primary focus and concern is for their son,” the statement from their representative continued, asking media and fans to give the actor couple some privacy.
Idina is currently busy voicing a character in the hit movie “Frozen” playing in theaters right now. Meanwhile, Taye can be seen performing in “The Best Man Holiday.”
