Identity Safe component, available in Norton Internet Security or Norton 360, has just been launched as a standalone solution for keeping your passwords safe and filling log-in forms automatically.

The current release is a public beta, so some glitches may occur while using it. It is cloud-based, which means that your credentials are saved online, and it is available across multiple platforms and browsers.

Supported operating systems include Android, iOS and Windows. As for the browsers, Norton Identity Safe can be used with Internet Explorer, Opera, Google Chrome and Safari. This means that you can keep information synchronized across browsers and mobile devices.

Also included in the product is Norton Safe Protection, which helps you identify malicious websites.

Norton Identity Safe attaches to the browser as a toolbar, providing easy access to your credentials or security-related information about the current website.

You can download Identity Safe from this page.

After a very, very long time, there is new development which has me thrilled! And the cause for it is described in the article above.

Its the most wonderful development for the year 2012 so far, IMO. I will mention that they're also releasing Identity Safe Beta for Android smartphones & tablets and iOS devices too! I am sure, one day there will be a Windows Phone application as well [you see, I am still a Nokia "fan"].
A LOT of users [including myself] had proposed these changes a number of times, but its still great to see Symantec act with such a great speed to fulfill the user's wishes. I seriously did not expect them to deliver so soon, on so many platforms - but that adds to the happiness!!

I use Norton 360 myself, but I still hope that the application continues to be free for everybody, when its out of beta [for all platforms]. But, I admit there being a 50/50 chance for that event.
Nevertheless, its an important development and should give some serious competition to LastPass. Having used Identity Safe ever since its introduction, I can say it [as of 2012] works atleast as good as LastPass, if not better!
