Vodafone UK has just issued an official statement hot on the heels of Three’s release of the Ice Cream Sandwich update for Samsung Galaxy S II.

Samsung officially announced the availability of the Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for Galaxy S II last week. However, the company stated the UK owners would start receiving the update from the week commencing on March 19.

This time it looks like Three UK customers were the lucky ones to get the update so soon, as the carrier has just announced the availability of Android 4.0 via Samsung Kies desktop software.

Other UK-based carriers have yet to unveil any details regarding the availability of the update. One of the operators who still offer the Galaxy S II, Vodafone UK issued a short statement regarding its own Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for Samsung Galaxy S II.

In order to make the wait for the update bearable, Vodafone came forward with the following statement:

The Android 4.0 upgrade for GALAXY S II smartphones running on the Vodafone UK network is currently under test to make sure that we provide the highest level of final software.

As soon as the tests are completed we will upload the software to the update servers as quickly as possible.”

There’s no telling exactly when the carrier will be able to push the major update, but if nothing goes wrong, Vodafone UK customers who own the Galaxy S II should be able to upgrade to Android 4.0 within the next few days.

It’s likely that the update will be available via Samsung Kies desktop software as well, so make sure to have the latest version installed on a computer.

On a side note, it appears that it takes about one hour for Three UK users to download the update via Kies. Still, it’s better to get it slow than not at all.
