14 DAY TRIAL // Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev, who star together in CW’s hit series “Vampire Diaries” and were, until recently, considered one of the best looking couples in showbiz, have split after 3 years together, it has emerged.
Reports about a possible breakup appeared online the other day and, while Nina isn’t saying anything to either deny or confirm them, one of Ian’s most recent tweets seems to indicate that, indeed, the romance is over.
“A THOUGHT FOR TODAY: People change and forget to tell each other. -Lillian Hellman, playwright (1905-1984),” he wrote as the tabloids were going crazy with speculation on the state of their relationship.
Us Weekly was the first to report it but could not offer a reason for why they decided to go their separate ways.
However, a source says, whichever the reason, neither Nina nor Ian will let the breakup mar their working relationship.
“[They are] consummate professionals [and] will continue to work together and remain best friends, which is where the relationship started,” the tipster shares.
This echoes a statement from Nina in an interview with Seventeen magazine, last year, when she explained why she didn’t want to be dating a co-star in the first place.
“I didn't want to be dating one of my costars – my goal on the show was to be professional. But sometimes you can't help who you have a connection with, and you can only fight it for so long – which I did for a really, really long time,” she said.
Fans of the show who also loved them as a couple are feeling very bad that things didn’t work out between them.
Of course, there is also a tiny possibility that this is just a rumor since, as noted above, neither actor has said anything publicly about a so-called split.
