IZ3D Axes Pricing for Its 22-Inch 3D LCD Monitors

We are in the middle of the digital era, with high-definition television, photorealistic gaming effects and all the best of the movie titles. However, it's too bad that all everything is taking place in a 2D environment that kicks the user out of the action.

However, three-dimensional monitors are slowly becoming a common appearance on the market. For instance, Zalman showcased its three-dimensional LCD display and the results were quite impressive, given the fact that users don't have to wear those funny, dual-color cardboard eyeglasses. IZ3D is also shipping its 3D monitor offerings for quite a while now, in either 19- or 22-inch form factor.

Yet, these 3D products are not cheap at all, and users can end up paying more than $1,000 for a 22-inch 3D LCD display. You can imagine that people don't quite queue up to make such purchases, and Dell has learned its lesson with its Crystal LCD display.

Things are about to change, as the guys at iZ3D have announced that the company slashed the price to a more affordable $599. The 22-inch iZ3D three-dimensional display can work at a maximum resolution of 1650 x 1050 pixels, but the 3D technology will offer another type of spatial layout.

According to iZ3D, the price cut does not have to do with low-end hardware or units malfunctioning, but aims instead at giving sales a boost by adopting a more affordable price tag. Not to mention that as the 3D monitor market is getting more and more crowded, we'd expect other price cuts as well.

The iz3D monitor heavily relies on drivers in order to deliver the 3D effects. The good part is that the proprietary S-3D drivers are compatible with about any graphics cards from both Nvidia and AMD. The downside is that you will not be able to achieve 3D modes while using SLI or Crossfire layouts due to some limitations imposed by the graphics cards manufacturers.

More than that, there is no driver available for 64-bit operating systems, but 32-bit OS users will be able to enjoy about 80 game titles that are fully compatible with the 3D rendering mode.
