Deal terms are confidential, but it is implied that the plaintiff is being paid royalties

The patent infringement lawsuit between Intellectual Ventures (IV) and two memory makers, SK Hynix and Elpida, was the standard settlement hunt: a company sued two large companies over owning the patent to a technology used in their products.

The three have reached a settlement, meaning that IV will be dropping all charges against the others.

The terms of the deal are being kept confidential, but it's easy to deduce that SK Hynix and Elpida, its new owner Micron, will be paying the plaintiff some cash.

We can't imagine that SK Hynix is all that thrilled with the situation. It probably would not have batted an eyelash if it had been just this matter, but the memory maker also lost a suit to Rambus a short time ago.

"Intellectual Ventures has reached amicable settlements with both SK Hynix and Elpida in the three patent infringement actions we filed against the companies over the past two years," said Melissa Finocchio, vice president and chief litigation counsel for Intellectual Ventures.
