The wireless carrier is currently in talks with Apple

There is no need to say that the unveiling of the iPhone was not enough for anyone who likes mobile phones, and that now everyone is waiting for the moment when the iPhone will actually be available in stores. While there's a pretty long time until that happens and we get to see the 'live' version of the iPhone, everyone already knows that, at least in the US, it will be available only through Cingular Wireless (which is to rebrand to AT&T) - who has an exclusive multi-year contract with Apple - starting June 2007.

While things in the U.S. are very clear, and the only way to get yourself one of Apple's phones would be to get into a contract with Cingular; in Canada nothing is certain yet, but it looks like Rogers will be the one providing the iPhone.

Rogers has already confirmed that it is currently in talks with Apple, and intents to be the Canadian carrier that is to offer the iPhone. Just like Cingular in the U.S., Rogers operates the largest GSM network in Canada, also being Canada's biggest carrier, which is why chances are that if Canadian people are to get the iPhone, they will get it after becoming Rogers Wireless customers.

On the other hand, while Rogers and Apple are currently in talks, no definite agreement has been reached so far. But just like in the case of Cingular, if Rogers signs a deal for iPhone distribution, it is very likely that they'll hurry to make an official announcement. If this is the case, and Rogers Wireless does get the iPhone, expect the phone to be released around late 2007, probably available with a three year contract.
