IPCop makes yet another improvement, releasing the Linux firewall's new version that will even better protect the devices of all the 'penguin branded' operating system fans.

According to The H Security, there are a lot of upgrades and improvements made to the latest product, among which the update made to the kernel version, now becoming 2.6.32.

The IPCop 2.0 is actually a development of v1.4 but which incorporates a lot of significant enhancements.

Besides the kernel version, 2.0 also offers hardware support for Cobalt, Sparc and PPC platforms and a new installer application. The user can install the firewall to flash or hard drives, while selecting interface cards that can be assigned to specific networks.

The utility itself is better protected, access to the web interface being password protected and the HTTPS secure connections port being changed to 8443.

The redesigned user interface includes a new scheduler page where various events can be programmed. The Status menu will include extra features like System Info, IPTables and Traffic Accounting.

The Proxy page now allows customers to perform advanced configuration settings using the enriched panel and while this became more complex, the DHCP server and the time server windows were simplified.

The 'What's new' chapter of the product's documentation informs us that the entire menu has been redeveloped, actions like Pinholes and Port Forwarding being controlled by firewall rules.

On this variant of the security system, the Intrusion Detection System has been made an add-on and not a default feature like on the previous one.

To make the installation and administration as easy as possible, IPCop 2.0 comes with complete instructions that will guide you step by step, helping you decide on your configuration, gather hardware information and guiding you through the entire setup process.

Because the system requirements are not high and the product is fairly easy to use, Linux enthusiasts can now fully benefit from a comprehensive network protection.
