The project has been in the works for a couple of years and, every time, it had come across great obstacles that prevented it from ever becoming real. 'Slide Away', the biopic about the singer's life, has now attracted the attention of two filmmakers, Clark Westerman and Nick Egan, who have set their minds to complete it.
Westerman, concerned that the INXS legacy will be further tarnished by the details of the frontman's death (occurred in November 1997, apparently because of autoerotic asphyxiation).
Therefore, he contacted the British video director Egan, who worked with Hutchence on many of the band's videos. 'Somebody else is going to do it and they are not going to do it as well as you would because you knew him so well', he told Egan when they first met.
In the new biopic, Westerman wants to place more stress on Hutchence's life as an artist, instead of stealing focus with his tragic and absurd death. 'This is not the memory we're after [that of him hanging himself], and that's not the story of who the man is. What we are aiming for is the journey through a person's life via their head', the director said.
The two directors are currently looking into Hutchence's catalogue to see which of his hit tracks will be included in the biopic. It is yet unknown if the artist's trust and family are going to collaborate on the 'Slide Away' project.
