Innovative Mobility Automobile's Colibri EV was unveiled just a few months ago at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, and people seem to have really taken a liking to it. Not to beat about the bush, the company says that, since the car first hit the public eye, it has collected over 700 pre-orders.

About half of these pre-orders were placed by private users, while the remaining come from businesses, IMA details in a press release.

The people who have shown this much interest in this vehicle no doubt wish to cut their annual fuel costs, the company argues.

Still, their buying the car will also yield some noteworthy benefits as far as environmental protection goes, seeing how the vehicle runs on electricity and therefore does not emit any pollutants.

“This enormously positive market resonance shows that the time has come for micromobility vehicles – especially considering that there was no elaborate marketing campaign to generate this kind of feedback,” IMA writes.

Furthermore, “The number of customers having registered on our website is in fact so high that all production Colibris of the first year, 2015, are sold out already. This success and the constant influx of new contacts and requests are further encouraging us to reach start of series production as quickly as possible.”

The Colibri EV accommodates just one passenger, and is powered by a 6.5kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery, Autoblog Green reports. According to IMA, the battery has a lifespan of about 8 years, or 140,000 miles (225,308 kilometers) of driving.

The car can cover about 68 miles (109.4 kilometers) on a single charge, and can reach the speed of 75 miles per hour (120.7 kilometers per hour). What's more, it goes from 0 to 60 miles per hour (96.5 kilometers per how) in under 10 seconds, the same source details. Once it hits the market, it will sell for less than €10,000 ($13,700).
