This is the message posted by an instant messaging worm delivering a link to a remote copy of itself. All it takes is one click. "When you click on it, it infects the computer fast by copying its files onto the
computer and downloads from that Website," stated Agnelo Fernandes, head of technical support for MicroWorld. Trend Micro has initially warned of WORM_SOHANAD.A spreading via the Internet, Yahoo Messenger and MSN Live Messenger. Since October 3 - when the worm was originally reported - Trend Micro has also discovered a variant labeled WORM_SOHANAD.B that has expanded to include the AOL instant messaging client, that was previously left out.

"This memory-resident worm arrives on an affected system as a file downloaded from the Internet by unsuspecting users while visiting malicious Web sites. It may also arrive via the popular instant messaging application, Yahoo! Messenger. When executed, modifies the system registry to disable Registry Editor and Task Manager. It also modifies the Internet Explorer home page and prevents the affected user from manually reverting to the preferred home page," described Trend Micro.

The worm embeds itself into Internet Explorer's home page and, every time the browser is launched, it reinfects the already compromised machine. Additionally, the worm renders inoperable security-related programs, but also components of malware on the computer. Editing the registry is a viable solution of removing the worm.
