Furniture giant IKEA has announced that, soon enough, all its stores in the United Kingdom will sell solar panels manufactured by Chinese company Hanergy Holding Group, Ltd.

The company claims that it took the decision to start selling solar panels in its UK stores in an attempt to help customers welcome green energy into their lives.

Odds are that potential profits also had a say in the matter.

According to TechHive, the people who wish to start harvesting solar power in their own homes must purchase at least 18 panels in one go. This will cost them some $9,000 (€6,661). Consultation, installation and maintenance are included.

However, IKEA maintains that, thanks to subsidies and savings, these people will regain an impressive $1245 (€921.5) on a yearly basis.

Otherwise put, just live in the same house for seven years in a row and the solar panels will pay for themselves.

For the time being, only a few of IKEA's stores in the UK market solar panels. The good news is that, in the months to come, they all will.
