IIS 7.0 and IIS 7.5 Manager for Windows 7

Microsoft has made available for download a new release of the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager tailored to the latest iteration of the Windows client. The IIS Manager is designed to play nice with versions 7.0 as well as 7.5 of Internet Information Services, the Redmond company informs. The tool, designed to allow administrators to perform remote management of their IIS 7.0 and IIS 7.5 servers, went live on the Microsoft Download Center on May 26, 2009 and is now up for grabs for testers.

“If you are installing on Windows 7: you must have the Internet Information Services Management Console installed. If you are installing on Windows Vista: you must have Windows Vista Service Pack 1 installed and you must have the Internet Information Services 7.0 Management Console installed. If you are installing on Windows XP: you must have Windows XP Service Pack 2 installed. If you are installing on Windows Server 2003: you must have Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 installed,” Microsoft informed.

According to the Redmond company, the IIS 7 Manager is set up to offer customers running its Internet Server an administration user interface that allows for the remote management of IIS 7.0 and IIS 7.5, while installed on the machines running one of the supported operating systems as enumerated above. Through the IIS 7 Manager, admins will be able to connect directly to either a server, a website they control or a web-based application.

The IIS 7 Manager will offer a complete perspective over the content on a specific website or associated with a certain tool. It is at the same time a tool that offers a consistent level of flexibility when it comes down to administrative tasks. Microsoft does not impose connection limitations. In this context, administrators can access and manage multiple servers, sites or applications simultaneously. No version of IIS is required to run on the local machine in order for the manager to function.
