One of the mobile phone makers that decided to join the Windows Phone 8.1 party earlier this year is YEZZ, and we got the chance to put our hands on its YEZZ Billy 4.7 and Billy 4.0 devices at the IFA 2014 trade fair in Berlin last week.

Unfortunately, only the YEZZ Billy 4.7 was powered up, albeit only a prototype version was displayed at the event, and we didn’t have the opportunity to make an idea of what the smaller model can perform.

As a refresher, YEZZ has decided to adopt the Windows Phone operating system after Microsoft announced that it had waved the licensing fee for manufacturers interested in making the switch.

Moreover, the company has opted in for the Billy 4.7 name for its first Windows Phone 8.1 device so as to remind users of Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft.

The handset features a 4.7-inch touchscreen display, a 1.2GHz quad-core Snapdragon 200 processor, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal memory, paired with a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 128GB of additional storage space.

An appealing mid-range phone

Basically, YEZZ is aiming at the mid-range segment of the market with this device, and the specs prove it. Moreover, the manner in which the phone performs shows the same focus on the mid-level.

We found the handset to be quite appealing and to be rather fast, which will certainly make it a great option for users looking for a device that can deliver good performance at an affordable price tag.

On the back, it sports an 8-megapixel camera with LED flash and HD video recording, paired with a 2MP front camera for video calling. Unfortunately, the prototype we played with lacked the actual camera sensor, and we couldn’t try it out.

The specs list of this mobile phone also includes 3G connectivity (HSDPA, 42.2 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps), Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS receiver, and a Li-Ion 1780 mAh battery that can deliver up to 7 hours and 30 minutes of talk time, or up to 350 hours of standby time.

The smaller model also includes powerful hardware

The smaller YEZZ Billy 4.0 comes to the market with a 4-inch HD screen, a 1.2 GHz quad-core Snapdragon processor, and 1GB of RAM. It  includes 4GB of internal memory and a microSD memory card slot for expansion purposes as well.

The smartphone features an 8-megapixel camera on the back, along with the usual connectivity capabilities, and all of the features that the Windows Phone 8.1 operating system has to offer.

Although we could not turn the phone on, we did observe that it was pretty light, which is not surprising, considering its compact form factor. The phone also offers a great grip.
