IFA 2014 has just kick started in Berlin and we expect to stumble upon lots and lots of wearables, because let’s face it, this year’s focus is going to be on them.

Today, most major tech players in the industry have an interest for the wearable garden, but that doesn't mean they are the only ones looking to produce such gadgets.

You might remember that popular shopping Aldi partnered up with Medion for a line of budget-friendly tablets just like Tesco did with Hudl line. Well now, Aldi is looking to the present and is seeing people want wearables.

Some of the products in the category being offered on the market today tend to come with extravagant price tags, but Aldi aims to keep things budget. With this purpose in mind, it has unveiled the Life Fitness Armband which should appeal to health-oriented customers usually grabbing groceries from Aldi.

The bracelet will work in concert with a smartphone (via Bluetooth) of the Android or iOS variety and has been designed to provide you with all the fitness data info you would normally expect form such a product, including counting steps or detecting whether you are jogging or walking.

The bracelet is equipped with a barometer and a UV-A / B sensor, so you will be notified when there’s strong sunlight outside. Additionally, the bracelet is capable of monitoring sleep and can wake you up while you are at your most rested.

It appears the device supports gestures control and you can navigate through the wearable’s functions this way. Naturally, the device will send you vibrating notifications once you have achieved a goal you have previously set for yourself.

Notifications will be displayed using different status LED colors, but the overall design of the device is quite simple. The good news is that the wearable is waterproof, so you’ll be able to keep it on while you shower or wash your hands in the bathroom.

According to Mobile Geeks, the Medion Life Fitness armband should arrive in retail with a price tag below €100 / $131, making it quite an affordable little wearable.

However, it still does not beat Xiaomi’s Mi Band which is sold for a meager $13 / €10. The Mi Band is also a very basic waterproof device that can help you reach daily goals, but some of you might enjoy the extra option of being able to unlock your Xiaomi phone by virtue of using the smartband.
