The mid-range handset is clearly among the slimmest on the market

There are many devices on the market claiming the world’s thinnest smartphone title from time to time, but Acer says its Liquid Jade is the smallest 5-inch handset, not necessarily the sleekest.

Even though the Liquid Jade was announced ahead of IFA 2014, the smartphone was showcased for the first time during the trade fair, in early September.

We were invited to Acer’s booth for a hands-on session with some of the company’s latest products, and here are our impressions on the Liquid Jade.

Perhaps Acer Liquid Jade is not the smallest 5-inch smartphone available on the market, but it surely feels that way (140.5 x 69mm). It’s very light, at only 110g (battery included) and very thin, at 7.5mm.

The handset has a curved layout, which is doubled by a metallic frame around the chassis. The only downside is the shiny plastic battery cover, which looks rather cheap.

Even if the Liquid Jade has been priced cheaply, it should look that way as well. Anyway, apart from that, Acer’s mid-range handset does look like a decent alternative for those who can’t afford a premium phone.

Moving on to specs, in order to keep price low, Acer Liquid Jade packs a MediaTek chipset that features a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and a Mali-400MP2.

As mentioned, it sports a 5-inch HD (720p) display, an enhanced 13-megapixel rear-facing camera, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of internal memory. The smartphone offers dual-SIM support as well, along with microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 128GB).
