Even the DesignLine series of TVs can “extend” the image to the wall behind them

It would have been remiss of us to come to IFA and not stop by Philips' hall, especially when the Ambilight technology was so artistically deployed there.

For those unfamiliar with the term, Ambilight is is a feature whereby Philips displays cast light on the wall behind them based on what is shown on the screen.

Rows of LEDs are arrayed near the edges, on the back side of the television sets. Those LDS change color when the image on the screen does. Essentially, the images or videos being played are “extended' to the area beyond the edges.

The technology is meant to enhance immersion, and Philips is so proud of it that it has included it on more or less ever one of its mid-to-high end TVs.

Even the DesignLine, whose front glass panel extends below the screen, doubling as a stand, have it. Have a look below at the effects.

Note: Sebastian Pop and fellow editor Ionut Arghire are on the floor at IFA 2013 and are bringing you pictures and live reports on the latest products and previews. Find them all here.
