The company's new motto is “A Better Life, a Better World”

Panasonic proved proactive this year, having held a press conference days ahead of the actual opening of the IFA 2013 trade show in Berlin, Germany.

I was there for the new roamdap outline and main product announcements. One of the main topics during the presentation was the use of cloud computing in everyday life.

Where before cloud was a risky venture for business data backup, now it is a means to provide unlimited access to any and all devices and home appliances, wherever you may be.

It's all part of this year's motto: A Better Life, a Better World.

In a nutshell, Panasonic envisions a world where all consumer electronics, PCs and home appliances are connected in the cloud.

Thus, you would, for example, be able to order a button-less and dial-less washing machine to do your laundry and, later, while watching TV, a screen pop-up would tell you when the washing is done.

Similarly, voice commands would control an oven. Said oven would, in turn, remember your preferences and adjust the way it carries out subsequent cooking tasks.

Add to that intelligent refrigerators and coffee machines and your home can essentially take care of you and itself with minimal input on your part.

Finally, Panasonic came up with a smart system of controlling how much energy is accessed during peak times, instead of maxing out supply. It is also cloud-based, and marks a closer collaboration between Panasonic and energy companies.
