Shortly after LG unveiled the Optimus G superphone, the South Korean handset maker came forward with another Android smartphone, the Optimus L9.

Following the same design-line of the L-Style series, Optimus L9 comes with innovative UX, new software and some powerful hardware.

First of all, the smartphone runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system out of the box, though we assume LG will be kind enough to offer an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade soon after launch.

As the name suggests, LG Optimus L9 is the most powerful smartphone in the L-Style series. However, this is no flagship device, so don’t expect anything too impressive.

LG Optimus L9 is equipped with a dual-core processor clocked at 1 GHz, which is complemented by 1GB of RAM. We don’t have any info on the graphics processing unit, but LG is expected to offer more details on this device in the following days.

On the inside, the handset packs 4GB of onboard memory, which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD memory card. There’s also a 5-megapixel rear photo snapper with autofocus and video recording, as well as a secondary VGA front-facing camera for video calls.

The phone’s main selling point is the stunning 4.7-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display that supports 16 million colors. The Optimus L9 has the larger display in its class and is only 9.1mm thick.

LG also added a 2150 mAh SiO+ battery inside, which promises to allow owners of the Optimus L9 to be able to use its various new UX features “all day long with maximized performance.”

The handset comes packed with new features such as QTranslator and My Style Keypad function. The former is capable of translating entire sentences and phrases with a simple scan from 44 languages to 64 user languages.

With the My Style Keypad function, users will be able to adjust the key formation of the keypad according to whether he/she is texting with one hand or two hands.

The Optimus L9 is a great smartphone that appeals to every consumer. LG will continue to offer differentiated value through the Optimus L9 and strengthen our position in the smartphone market,” said Dr. Jongseok Park, president and CEO of LG Mobile Communications Company.
