Sony's 9.4-inch tablet that sports PlayStation certification

Among the devices that Softpedia's editors had the chance to put hands on at the IFA 2011 show in Berlin, we can count the Sony Tablet S, a new Android-based tablet PC that should arrive on shelves in the near future. Sony unveiled the device only recently as an Android 3.1 Honeycomb tablet PC that features PlayStation certifications and which can deliver great performance levels.

The new tablet sports a large 9.4-inch touchscreen display, capable of providing a 1280 x 800 pixels resolution, and is powered by an NVIDIA Tegra 2 dual-core application processor, with each core clocked in at 1GHz.

The specifications list of Sony Tablet S also includes a 5-megapixel photo snapper with support for video recording, as well as a 0.3-megapixel camera on the front, to enable video recording.

The tablet PC was packed with 32GB of internal memory, and also sports a microSD memory card through which users can expand the available storage space by up to 32GB.

The new Android device also comes to the market with Wi-Fi connectivity capabilities, as well as with Bluetooth 2.1, microUSB port, DLNA capabilities, and built-in GPS receiver, with support for Google Maps and other location-based services.

The new tablet PC was also packed with Accelerometer, Gyroscope, and Compass, as well as with a 5000 mAh battery that should deliver increased usage times. This device measures 241.2 x 174.3 x 10.1 mm and weighs in at 598 grams.

The Sony Tablet S is capable of delivering great multimedia capabilities as well, including fast Internet browsing (HTML, XHTML, Flash), and enhanced media player, with support for MPEG4, H.263, H.264, WMV video file types.

Running under Android 3.1 Honeycomb, the new tablet PC will also provide users with access to a variety of applications and games available for download via the Android Market, as well as with support for Google Mobile Services, like Search, Gmail, Maps, Calendar, YouTube, and more.
