Only a few weeks ago, Japanese-Swedish mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson announced the release of a new Android-based member of its Xperia family of devices, the Xperia neo V, and the company also brought it to the IFA 2011 show in Berlin, where Softpedia's editors had the chance to take a closer look at it.

The new device was announced with the Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread operating system on board, the same OS flavor that will be released for all of the Xperia devices launched in 2011 in the upcoming weeks.

The handset will land on shelves with a 3.7 inches touchscreen display that can deliver a 480 x 854 pixels resolution (with a scratch-resistant surface, Sony Mobile BRAVIA Engine and multi-touch input method).

It packs a 1GHz Scorpion Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon application processor with Adreno 205 GPU, complemented by 512 MB of RAM and 320 MB of internal memory, along with a microSD memory card slot so that users can expand the available storage to up to 32GB.

On the back, the new mobile phone features a 5-megapixel photo snapper, with auto focus, LED flash and support for HD video recording, paired with a front-facing camera to enable video calling.

Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth connectivity capabilities were included with this device too, as well as Stereo FM radio with RDS, DLNA, Wi-Fi hotspot and microUSB 2.0 port, and HSDPA 7.2 Mbps / HSUPA 5.76 Mbps, 3.5mm headphone jack, and built-in GPS receiver.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia neo V measures 116 x 57 x 13 mm and weighs in at 126 grams. It is powered by a Li-Po 1500 mAh battery that can deliver up to 7 hours of talk time, or up to 430 hours of standby time.

The handset was also loaded with specific software from Sony Ericsson, including the Timescape UI, Adobe Flash 10.1, Facebook inside Xperia, and more. It will also provide users with access to the Android Market for downloading more applications and games.
