Xperia active and Xperia ray are the latest stylish Android Gingerbread-based devices from Sony Ericsson to arrive on the market, both of which were present on the floor at the IFA 2011 show in Berlin, where Softpedia had the chance to spend a few minutes in their company.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia active is a rugged device that can easily prove a great companion for those who live active lives and who like to keep track of their workout.

The handset sports a 3-inch touchscreen display that can deliver a 320 x 480 pixels resolution, as well as 1GB of internal memory and a microSD memory card slot with support for up to 32GB of additional storage space.

Measuring 92.0 x 55.0 x 16.5 mm and weighing in at 110.8 grams, the Xperia active also sports 3G connectivity, as well as WiFi and Bluetooth capabilities, GPS receiver, and a battery that can deliver around 5 hours of talk time or up to 350 hours of standby time.

The handset comes with a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with support for HD video recording, a secondary camera for video calling, a 1 GHz processor inside, and Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread OS to power them all.

However, the most appealing feature of this device is its ruggedness, as it can easily withstand harsh conditions, and can work even after being submerged. At IFA, we had the chance to see it 'breathing' under water, as you can see in the photos attached below.

As for the Xperia ray, it is an affordable device that still packs features that will appeal a lot to all users, complemented by increased performance capabilities, courtesy of a 1GHz Scorpion application processor it sports inside, complemented by an Adreno 205 GPU.

The mobile phone sports a 3.3-inch LED-backlit LCD capacitive touchscreen display that can deliver a 480 x 854 pixels resolution, along with 1GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot for adding more storage into the mix if needed.

Sony Ericsson also packed it with an 8-megapixel photo snapper on the back, with LED flash and 720p video recording capabilities, as well as with a secondary camera for video calling.

It comes with connectivity options similar to those available with other new Xperia handsets from Sony Ericsson, as well as with specific software from the company, such as Facebook inside Xperia, and more.

A Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery can keep the Xperia ray alive for up to 7 hours when talking, or for up to 440 hours when in standby. The mobile phone measures 111 x 53 x 9.4 mm and weighs in at 100 grams.
