The growth of Internet Explorer 9 on Windows 7 continued in April as well, the latest data from Net Applications shows.

Currently, the browser enjoys 35.5 percent usage on the Windows 7 platform all around the world, an encouraging increase for Microsoft (it gained over 5 percentage points in the past two months alone).

Moreover, it appears that the application’s popularity in some countries is growing at faster paces, such as the US, where it gained no less than 4 percentage points during the last month.

“I’m pleased to note that we continue to see IE9 growth on Windows 7 continuing, hitting 35.5% worldwide as of the end of April,” Roger Capriotti, director, Internet Explorer product marketing, writes in a blog post.

“The data is particularly encouraging for users and developers in the US, with IE9 growing 4 points of share on Windows 7, hitting 52.9% usage share in April.”

As Capriotti continues, the browser’s growth on Windows 7 spells great news for both users and developers alike, as they will benefit from “the richer web experiences and standards support in IE9.”

The Net Applications report cited by the Redmond-based software giant was generated on April 29th. IE9’s market share was compared to that of Chrome and Firefox, as can be seen in the screenshots attached.

“With a new month brings new usage share data to report. As always, we look to Net Applications for the most current data given the depth and quality of their methodology as we focus on our core metric: IE9 growth on Windows 7.”

Microsoft has been hard at work with enhancing the capabilities and security of Internet Explorer with IE9, such as the support for the increasingly popular HTML5 platform, while also showing great focus on the marketing of this browser.

Future enhancements will arrive on Internet Explorer 10, meant to make an official appearance in Windows 8, but which might also be released for older Windows platform versions as well.
