A great experience courtesy of hardware-accelerated HTML5 canvas, SVG, CSS, and more

The latest versions of Internet Explorer can offer an enhanced HTML5 experience to users, since they can take advantage of hardware capabilities of the computer they are running on.

And when complemented by touchscreen capabilities in Windows 8, things get even more exciting, at least this is what the Redmond-based software giant would have us believe.

On the drive test website it put in place for the latest IE flavors, Microsoft made available a GPU-powered snow storm for those who would like to have a look at how the browser can perform when 1000 snowflakes assault it.

“Check out Let It Snow and get ready for a GPU-powered snow storm. This experience brings together hardware-accelerated HTML5 canvas, SVG, CSS, and more.” Rob Mauceri, Group Program Manager, Internet Explorer, explains.

“On Windows Developer Preview with support for multi-touch in IE10, you can reach out and brush the snow off the sign and reveal a holiday message -or just use your mouse.

On IE9 and IE10, the snowflakes keep on pouring, just as during a blizzard. We’ve gave the webpage a try on Firefox and Chrome as well, but the experience was not even close to what IE had to offer.

Internet Explorer 10 was brought to the public earlier this year, delivering the site ready HTML5 that developers are looking for, so as to be able to offer beautiful and interactive Web experiences.

“With the Windows Developer Preview, we introduced more hardware-accelerated HTML5 for building touch friendly applications on the Web. We’re delighted and amazed by what developers are building on HTML5 and excited to be part of it,” Rob Mauceri continues.

He also notes that IE is being built on the feedback received from users and developers alike, whether they are using IE9 or IE10, are running test drives or report issues that the development team has to correct afterwards.

“From the entire IE team, we wish you a Happy Hardware-accelerated Holiday Season, and we look forward to another exciting year on the Web in 2012,” Mauceri concludes.
