Early adopters running the pre-release versions of Internet Explorer 9 will be upgraded to the RTW Build automatically, revealed Dean Hachamovitch, Corporate Vice President, Internet Explorer.

Testers that were running IE9 Beta when the Release Candidate came out undoubtedly know that Microsoft offered them upgrades to IE9 RC through Windows Update.

The Redmond company informed in February 2011 that the same will be valid when IE9 would be released to web.

“IE9 will be available to Windows customers via Windows Update. Machines running the IE9 beta or release candidates will be upgraded to the final release automatically,” Hachamovitch stated.

The automatic upgrades for IE9 Beta and RC users are designed to get them running the RTW version in order to benefit from all the bug fixes and the security patches the release contains.

The software giant will serve IE9 RTW to all IE9 Beta and RC users, even to those that have the Internet Explorer 9 Automatic Update Blocker Toolkit installed.

The Blocker Toolkit is designed to allow customers who aren’t ready to make the jump to the latest iteration of IE, to block the distribution of IE9 RTW through Automatic Update.

Microsoft made the standalone downloads of IE9 RTW available on March 14th, 2011 to those running Windows Vista SP2, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows Server 2008 SP2.

According to statistics released by the Redmond company, IE9 was downloaded in excess of 40 million times throughout the Beta and RC development stages, making it the largest Beta in the company’s history.

The company did not reveal just how many daily users of IE9 there were ahead of the RTW development milestone, but it did confirm that over 2% of the customers running Windows 7 were using the browser.

I had been using the IE9 beta for only a very short while before 'upgrading' to the non beta version. Huge mistake!
When downloaded the 'new and improved' ie9 screwed up almost all of my user settings, deleted over 3/4 of my desktop links (shortcuts) and refused to recognize me as the admin of my pc; assigned me as a 'guest' and in so doing informed me that all settings would be deleted upon reboot. They were. Used system restore to revert to ie9 beta. I don't trust the final version. What happened? Any ideas ou there? nicholasguy29@hotmail.com
