Features in Internet Explorer 9 are capable of essentially protecting users against themselves, in scenarios where keeping software updated or running anti-malware would fail them.

Microsoft argues that the browser is the first line of defense against online threats, and the company launched YourBrowserMatters.org in order to spread the message.

YourBrowserMatters.org is designed to attribute a feature security score to all browsers, and to urge customers to keep theirs updated to the latest version.

The site also stresses IE9’s superiority when compared to Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc. in relation to protecting users from socially engineered malware.

Attackers employ a variety of tactics to spread malware, including tricking or scaring users into infecting their own machines. With features such as SmartScreen Filter and application reputation, IE9 blocks no less than 99% of socially engineered malware, NSS Labs revealed.
