Microsoft is catalyzing the evolution of its Windows Embedded for Point of Service platform with the addition of two new features. Fact is that both Internet Explorer 8 and Silverlight 3 have been available for Windows client operating systems for quite some time, but both applications are only now coming to Windows Embedded POSReady 2009. As of September 2nd, 2009, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) will find that both IE8 and Silverlight 3 are available via ECE for Windows Embedded POSReady 2009.

“Windows Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) for Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 offers partners new opportunities for innovation and extending the reach of online services to increase exposure and provide value to users. Features like Accelerators, Web Slices, and Visual Search enable constant connection with customers – regardless of where they browse. These service-integration features can be implemented without changing core code belonging to the service itself,” Terry Warwick, a program manager on the Windows Embedded team, revealed.

While the download links for IE8 and Silverlight 3 for POSready 2009 are no secret, accessing the bits is another thing altogether. This, because the ECE site is reserved to OEMs that have a CLA signed with Microsoft. Only select OEM partners can download updates for Windows Embedded products through ECE. But, just in case that you represent such an OEM, IE8 for POSReady 2009 is available here and Silverlight 3 for POSReady 2009 can be grabbed from this link.

“Microsoft Silverlight 3 for Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 is a major update and delivers many new features and capabilities, enabling new scenarios for Windows Embedded POSReady 2009 devices. New features include support for hardware graphics acceleration, HD support, IIS Smooth Streaming, richer and more immersive graphic experiences, Out of Browser support and much more,” Warwick added.
