Well, not actually free. One week past the launching of the final version of Internet Explorer 7, Microsoft is aggressively promoting the browser. Tony Chor, IE Group Program Manager, stated rhetorically: "just in case you missed it somehow, we released IE7 last Wednesday." And he is right. The three million IE7 downloads in just the first four days since the browser was made available are a clear illustration of success.

On November 1, Internet Explorer 7 will start being distributed via Automatic Updates. But up until that moment, Microsoft is flooding media channels with advertisements. IE7 is on television, on the Internet, on the radio and on the streets. "Of course, we're not done with IE7 yet. Next up are the localized versions of IE7 for Windows XP and, of course, IE7 in Windows Vista," said Chor.

Microsoft's first ever IE radio spot is available here. It has a second coming, hallelujah, feel to it, and it's not without a generous sense of humor, you can check it out via this link. Additionally, Internet Explorer 7 mobile billboards have found their way onto the streets of 10 major cities in the United States. Tony Chor has even made some pictures available. The first one is from Dallas, the second from New York.
