Microsoft is celebrating the fact that Internet Explorer 6 has now dropped below 1 percent market share in the US. That's a significant milestone for the browser which has been the bane of any web developer out there.
There's very good reason to Microsoft's celebrating the demise of its own products, it's got IE9 to promote, the only upgrade path in the eyes of the software company. Well, the only upgrade path unless you're using Windows XP, in which case IE8 is as far as you go.
The US is not the only place where IE6 has fallen into obscurity. But don't break out the champagne just yet, according to Net Applications numbers cited by Microsoft, IE6 still has a 7.33 percent market share worldwide. And, while it's dropping, it's still going to be a while before all developers in the world can forget about the ancient browser.
