A new initiative to showcase the features of Microsoft's modern browser

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer team has kicked off yet another project aimed at bringing to the spotlight the capabilities of their browser.

Partnering with Fox Studios, the team has launched the initiative as the Project Prometheus Training Center, which was designed entirely using HTML5.

Based on the hypothesis that Weyland Industries is accepting applications for the Project Prometheus spaceship, users will get through a series of tests to prove that they are capable of winning a spot on the ship.

The Training Center includes a series of online physical and cognitive assessments designed to test user’s ability to be “a functioning member of the Project Prometheus team.”

With the summer blockbuster Prometheus approaching its release in theaters fast, the Training Center will provide fans with the possibility to enter the world of Weyland Industries and Project Prometheus.

“By partnering with the Internet Explorer team, we were able to create an online experience that makes visitors part of the Prometheus experience,” Ira Rubenstein, EVP Digital at Twentieth Century Fox, stated.

“The HTML5 and hardware accelerated capabilities of Internet Explorer 9 gave us the power we needed to provide amazingly realistic mental and physical challenges that bring the Training Center to life.”

The Training Center will deliver an HTML5 experience that is based on jQuery for the UI and controls, and which also includes a 3D library for the Spatial Relations and Prefrontal Cortex Assessments that offers features such as 3D models, lighting, hit testing and camera rotation.

Those who would like to plunge into the world of Project Prometheus are encouraged to do so via Internet Explorer (Internet Explorer 9 should prove the best option). However, they can use any other browser as well.

“Project Prometheus training exercises were designed and built with Internet Explorer technology. While you can use any browser, Internet Explorer's speed and performance will give you a significant advantage over other applicants,” Microsoft notes on the website.

The new initiative joins a series of other similar projects that put Internet Explorer and its support for modern web technologies into the middle, including Cut the Rope, the redesigned Jasmine’s “Just a Friend” Music Video, and more.
