Sony Ericsson to release the Android 4.0 update in early 2012

Mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson has already confirmed plans to bring its Android devices up to OS flavor 4.0, and it seems that the company already made the first steps in this direction.

Ice Cream Sandwich updates for the company’s Xperia arc and Xperia neo smartphones have been spotted over at PTCRB, where they are said to already be under certification.

Given the fact that Sony Ericsson has moved so fast with having the software certified for its devices, we could assume that the company was set to make the updates available for users in early 2012.

This would mean a lot for the handset vendor, and will certainly make its devices even more appealing than before.

Chances are that Sony Ericsson submitted more Ice Cream Sandwich ROMs for certification, and that it would release the update for its entire 2011 lineup of Xperia handsets at the same time, just as it did with previous updates.

Some of the latest rumors on this suggested that the company might plan on making the updates available sometime in March next year, but there are also those who point at a January release.

If Sony Ericsson were indeed set to make the move, it would be among the first makers in the world to deliver Android 4.0 updates for its devices.

However, we should note forget that Samsung also promised the update for its users, and that the company already played with the new OS flavor, since it was the one to develop Galaxy Nexus, the first Ice Cream Sandwich device in the world.

Companies like HTC and LG also promised updates for their latest Android devices, and other vendors are also expected to follow suit.

For the time being, the one thing that is certain is that Sony Ericsson is moving forth with the building of Android 4.0 updates for its latest Xperia devices, and that it might not be too long before the company makes an official announcement on its availability.
