Not a single day goes by without an Indian handset manufacturer launching a new Android device. This time it’s Karbonn with its Smart A18 smartphone powered by Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system.
Although the device does not come with Jelly Bean out of the box, Karbonn Smart A18 provides more bang for the buck in comparison with other smartphones manufactured by well-known brands such as Samsung, HTC or LG.
However, when it comes to the quality of the product, consumers are the only ones that can judge if this device is worth the money or not.
Smart A18 will be available for purchase in India for only Rs 12,990 (235 USD or 185 EUR) outright, though there are other devices in the same price range that offer similar features.
In terms of specs sheet, the Smart A18 is equipped with a 1 GHz single-core processor, as well as a more than decent 4.2-inch IPS capacitive touchscreen display.
Affordability aside, the phone’s main selling point is dual-SIM capability, which has become a mandatory feature for handsets launched by Indian mobile phone manufacturers.
On the back, Karbonn Smart A18 sports a 5-megapixel photo snapper with autofocus, LED flash and video recording. The main camera also comes with advanced features such as Burst Mode and Face Detection.
Keep in mind that the smartphone also packs a secondary 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera for self-portraits and video calling.
No word yet on the amount of storage, but Karbonn has confirmed that the Smart A18
comes with microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 32GB, so users will get enough space to store their favorite music and video.
The phone also comes with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, as well as 3G and USB tethering. Software-wise, Smart A18 offers several pre-loaded apps and services, including the popular Whatsapp, Google Maps, Facebook and Gmail.
