The buzz caused by the findings of an expert have drawn the attention of authorities

Back in July, security expert Troy Hunt highlighted many of the potentially dangerous security practices implemented by Tesco on its tesco.com website. His findings haven’t fallen on death ears, the UK’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) promising to look into the security measures implemented by the retailer.

Hunt identified security issues with passwords, connections and configurations, but the company’s representatives kept stating that their website properly protected customers.

However, the expert's findings have revealed the fact that a number of researchers have been trying to warn Tesco of its poor practices for years now, but to no avail.

According to Computing, the wave of concern caused by these latest articles has attracted the attention of the ICO, whose representatives claim that they’re aware of the issues surrounding tesco.com and they plan on “making inquiries.”

“Whilst a statement such as ‘We are aware of this issue and will be making inquiries’ is far from a damning indictment, it will be interesting to see how this unfolds and whether the company may actually be called on those “lousy” practices,” Hunt wrote on his blog.
