Just recently, AMD has made the headlines with the much anticipated launch of the company's first 45nm consumer processors, the new Phenom II CPUs. Alongside the launch of these new high-performance desktop processors, the Sunnyvale, California-based chip maker also announced its latest gaming-ready platform, suggestively dubbed “Dragon.” The Dragon is basically made out of three significant AMD parts, including the 790GX chipset, the latest
Radeon HD 4000-series graphics processors and the new Phenom II CPUs. The platform, which has just been enabled on two new iBUYPOWER systems, is meant to provide gaming enthusiasts with a choice for a high-performance desktop, but at a more affordable price tag.
“We felt it was time [to] offer the Dragon Platform technology to casual gamers looking to purchase a high-end system without the high-end price tag,” said Darren Su, vice president of iBUYPOWER. “With the Gamer HAF 91B and Fire we can offer powerful systems that deliver high definition graphics and smooth game play at a great value.”
The Gamer HAF 91B configuration has been built using an AMD 790GX CrossFire-enabled motherboard, coupled with a Phenom II X4 920 processor and an ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB graphics card. In addition, the configuration also boasted a 4GB DDR2 800 memory, a 500GB SATA II 7200RPM, two LG optical drives and a 550W power supply. The system is encased in a Coolemaster HAF 932 gaming chassis and will be priced at just $999, available at the company's online store.
For a higher-performance configuration, the company has designed the Gamer Fire 585, which includes a Phenom II X4 940 processor, an AMD 790GX Crossfire motherboard, a certified CPU liquid cooling system, for overclocking potential. In addition, users will be able to take advantage of the system's 4GB of DDR2 800 memory, 750GB SATA II 7200RPM hard drive, an ATI Radeon HD 4870X2 2GB graphics card and two LG optical drives. The system is powered by an 800W power supply and is priced at $1439.
