One would think that keeping a file in the same condition as when they were first created would forever be one of the greatest assets of personal storage, but IBM thinks it can be a disadvantage, so it got an idea.

IBM came up with an idea for a so-called”aging file system” which maintains “aged original files” and allow them to degrade over time, while keeping the original files safe and sound.

No separate application would be needed for the background process that would have to manage the aging.

Counterintuitive as this may sound, IBM may have been thinking about some people's fondness for old photos and prints.

Basically, some people just like old, real photos, with their fainter colors and everything, so IBM decided to try and let PC-stored photos go through similar transformations as well.
