Like the just launched SPL, the I-mate JAQ is a Pocket PC phone designed from ground up by I-mate, despite the rumors that say it is a re-branded HTC Excalibur. In fact, the specs of the device don't match up with the ones of the Excalibur, the first thing noticeable being its larger 2.8 inch 320x240 QVGA TFT LCD display, with 65k colors and touchscreen, compared with the 2.4 inch display of the HTC device.

The handheld will be a quadband, with support for GSM 850/900/1800/1900, GPRS and EDGE, with a 1.3 megapixel camera, a QWERTY keyboard, IrDA and Bluetooth 1.2.

The JAQ has a Intel TI OMAP850 200 Mhz processor, with 64 MB RAM, 128 MB ROM and a miniSD memory card expansion slot, running a Microsoft Windows Mobile 5.0 operating system. This brings in another addition, the set of Windows Mobile Office applications: Word Mobile, Excel Mobile and PowerPoint Mobile. The rumor says I-mate is ready to give its own free 10 MB e-mail address, hosted by Microsoft Exchange, to each JAQ handset sold.

There are no words about the pricing or the release date of the device, so all you future customers will have to wait and see for yourselves on the store release.
