With less than two weeks to go until the release of the second film in “The Twilight Saga,” “New Moon,” interest in the franchise and, implicitly, the cast, is peaking. Robert Pattinson, for instance, is gradually becoming the most hyped male star of the moment, which means more questions about his personal life are also being answered. One thing that Rob is not is a romantic, fans learn.

In a recent interview cited by People magazine, the usually private Robert agreed to answer a set of questions strictly on his love life, with the purpose of showing how he ultimately related to the character that made him such a hit with fans all over the world, the vampire Edward Cullen. On the occasion, Pattinson reveals that, while he’s not of the opinion that romance is solely for girls, he’s never had the courage to be a romantic in real life.

“I would never serenade someone to be romantic – you have to have so much balls to do that. I put a flower in someone’s locker when I was 15 years old, this girl called Maria. She thought that it was someone else and the other guy claimed it as well, which is great,” Robert recalls. As far as romantic gestures go, the British heartthrob says this is where he draws the line because he simply doesn’t have the courage to push the envelope farther. Of course, that’s not to say that he doesn’t believe in romanticism, or that he’s an adept of the saying that it’s only for girls.

“It’s like saying guys can’t appreciate romance. I’ve watched ‘Titanic’ and I didn’t think, ‘Oh, this is a girl’s film.’ I felt like the storyline in ‘New Moon’ is very heartbreaking and true. I didn’t think I was doing something just for the sake of romance,” Robert says. The connection with Edward goes beyond the softer, romantic side. “I get quite obsessive about things, and possessive as well. I have very, very specific ideas about how I want to do my work and how I want to be perceived, to the point of ridiculousness sometimes. I don’t listen to anyone else,” he further explains.

Romantic in real life or not, fans will get the chance to see Robert Pattinson as the brooding Edward Cullen again, the gorgeous vampire who falls in love with a girl from his high school, in “New Moon,” out on November 20.
