A pregnant Jessica Simpson is smiling from the pages of the latest issue of Lucky magazine. In the accompanying interview, which was taken before she confirmed she was expecting, the star talks about her weight issues and struggle. People must remember how, a while back, Simpson grabbed all headlines after gaining some weight and wearing a pair of rather unflattering mom jeans.
Since then, she's been constantly bullied by the tabloids and on Internet forums, but she's long decided she will not let this get her down.
In fact, she says, she embraced her curves shortly after “fatgate,” as it was called, broke. Because of this, her brand is now more stronger, because it (and she) became more relatable.
“I got so much scrutiny for putting on extra pounds, but I think that the decision not to make myself anorexic was actually great for branding,” Jessica explains for the magazine.
“Because when you’re really, really skinny, not everybody can relate to you,” she adds.
And relatability is what is making her billion dollar empire expand into new territories each day, Jessica believes.
“All kinds of women started coming up to me and saying what an example I was setting by not constantly dieting,” she says.
Suddenty, she wasn't a celebrity anymore for the women who buy her clothes, her accessories, her perfumes: she was a woman just like them, and she just happened to be a star.
“Everybody fluctuates, but I’m open about my weight and I’m still confident. I didn’t cry about it too much,” Simpson says of how she coped with the media backlash and the negativity.
Now an incredibly successful businesswoman, Jessica is getting ready to add another achievement to her belt: she's pregnant with her first child, by fiance Eric Johnson, as we also
informed you yesterday.
In the same interview, she says she's yet to set a wedding date because neither she nor Eric are in a hurry to tie the knot.
