Several stints in the rehab, a quick jail visit, a much mediated car chase and subsequent arrest, and more scandals than could fit the pages of a book have not failed to leave a great impression on what was once a very promising acting career for Lindsay Lohan. In time, she has lost the credibility she used to enjoy and the confidence of her fans, and she knows it all too well, as she just admitted in a frank discussion with Interview magazine.

The freckled actress, until not long ago a constant presence on the Hollywood party circuit, has now reached a point in which she can clearly tell that the decisions she made in her personal life have also impacted her career. “What hurts me the most is that I work just as hard as any other actress around my age, like Scarlett Johansson, but I just don’t get the opportunities that they get.” Lindsay is quoted as saying. Her words do make sense, especially in the context in which most, if not all, of her most recent performances have been completely annulled by critics and fans.

“People are so distracted by the mess that I created in my life” is how Lindsay explains to herself her much derided profession of now, adding on a more optimistic note that it “doesn’t mean it’s going to last forever.” In the same interview, Lohan also admits to just realizing she has lost something, a gift, that not many were happy enough to enjoy - that of changing people’s lives through her acting, which she totally killed with her reckless behavior.

The worst part of this all is, yet, that actors also believe what they read in the media, and judge her not by her talent or ability to fill the shoes of one character or another, but by the failure that is her personal life right now. “Even other actors - I mean, great actors who I want to work with - have such a misconception of who I am because of all the things that get said about me.” Lindsay concludes by telling the mag.

After the critically panned “I Know Who Killed Me” (2007), in which Lindsay starred as a disabled exotic dancer, she also appeared in the hit TV series “Ugly Betty,” and was received with warmer reviews. Her next project, “Labor Pains,” is currently in post-production, and will come out this year.
