Showing that it hasn't only been working on new monitors, I-O Data has officially introduced a Blu-ray writer called BRD-S14X.

The new optical disk drive (ODD) is a fairly common-looking piece of hardware, one that uses the regular SATA connection to communicate with a motherboard.

It boasts 4 MB of buffer memory and can scribe Blu-ray disks at speeds of up to 14x, depending on the number of layers.

Needless to say, DVDs and CDs are also supported, though the writing speeds can reach higher, to 16X for the former and 48X for the latter.

I-O Data hasn't begun to ship the newcomer yet. It will only do so on March 31. Until then, prospective buyers can gather the needed $162 (122.38 Euro), and free up one of their PC's 5.25-inch bays.
