Being the maker of various storage devices that it is, I-O Data, understandably, did not let much time pass without revealing some new products, deciding to expand an existing series of HDDs.

With Western Digital covering the area of portable HDD cases, I-O Data has now announced that its collection of portable storage solutions has grown.

The HDPC-AU line of compact hard drives is not exactly a new series of products, but this doesn't mean new members can't show up.

Turns out that new additions to the series is precisely what I-O Data prepared, five of them in fact, although they don't really differ from each other though anything except design.

To be more specific, the five new HDPC-AU portable hard disk drive units are colored Orient Red, Orient Blue, Bitter brown, Piano Black and Pearl White.

As for the actual hardware, the USB 2.0 interface is used, which features backwards compatibility with USB 1.1 ports.

Also, the cases of the models have a soft rubber coating on the bottom part, while the top side is scratch-resistant and glossy.

As for the actual capacity, the storage space is of 1 TB for all new arrivals, packed inside the frame of 75 (W) x 112 (D) x 14 (H) mm (the weight is of 160 grams).

One might say that the lack of support for the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard is a drawback, what with so many products supporting it nowadays.

On the flip side, the 1TB drives are set to sell for $195, along with a 1-year warranty, by the end of the month (June, 2011) in Japan, which isn't as much as one might expect, given the capacity.

Either way, those that do want the data transfer speed benefits of the more advanced interface can buy a member of the HDPV-UT line instead.
