The three hard drive units that I-O Data has just released are not distinct through some sort of hardware features, but through the color of their cases.

They are colored black (HDPX-UTK), gold (HDPX-UTG), and silver (HDPX-UTS).

All of them possess 500 GB of storage space, a single USB 3.0 port (with backwards compatibility for USB 2.0 of course) and 256-bit AES encryption. All that is packed inside a 7mm frame that weighs 125 grams.

Sales of I-O Data's drives will begin in next month (September 2012). The price will be of 11,130 JPY, or $140 / €112.

The company may or may not ship the newcomers to regions besides Japan. The likelihood is high for availability to reach those areas eventually, if not immediately. Then again, you never know.
