Makers of storage solutions periodically show off newer and better HDDs, SSDs, flash drives, ODDs and memory cards, and I-O Data has just stepped up in order to say that it will soon start selling a whole new collection of Class 2 memory cards.

There are several so-called classes of memory cards and each of them differs from the others of its kind though its data transfer rate.

While the higher-end models, like Class 10, are aimed at camcorders and professional photo cameras, the so-called lower-end ones are intended for more mundane tasks.

I-O Data decided to release this exact type of memory cards, so it put together a whole collection of SD, SDHC, microSD and microSDHC models.

All of them feature the Class 2 rating, which means that their data transfer speed is of 2 MB/s, not the greatest in the world but enough for most mainstream and entry-level consumer electronics.

The complete offering is composed of one SD card, four SDHC cards, one microSD model and a pair of microSDHC.

To be more specific, there are microSDHC cards of 4 GB and 8 GB, SDHC cards of 4 GB, 8 GB 16 GB and 32 GB, a microSD of 2 GB and a SD of 2 GB.

All of them are listed in their maker's official press release and are slated to start shipping, in Japan at least, by the end of the month.

Unfortunately, the company did not give any sort of pricing details, which means that interested end-users will have to wait until the products show up in stores.

The micro models will be bundled with an SD adapter, so that they may be usable in a wider variety of electronics and read by even the more common card readers that laptops may be equipped with.
