Now that she has a new book out, “The Art of Men (I Prefer Mine al Dente),” Kirstie Alley has the perfect excuse to publicly talk about her love life. On Barbara Walters the other day, she made it a point of stressing that John Travolta was not gay.

That segment of the interview is below, embedded at the end of the article.

One of the shocking revelations made in the book is that Kirstie and Patrick Swayze, both married at the time they met, were “in love.” Another is that John Travolta was and remains the “love of her life.”

That is precisely so, Kirstie tells Walters.

“Believe me, it took everything I had inside, outside, whatever, to not run off and marry John and be with John for the rest of my life,” Kirstie says.

She and John met on the set of “Look Who’s Talking” and went on to work together on the sequels as well. They remain best friends to this day.

This would mean that Kirstie is the perfect person to address those persistent gay rumors that have been plaguing Travolta for years – and, by the looks of things, aren’t about to go away anytime soon.

“I know John with all my heart and soul. He’s not gay,” Alley says.

However, she believes she has an explanation for the existence of the rumors: people are jealous like that and they love to do whatever they can to bring someone down, especially if that someone is a public person.

“I think in some weird way, in Hollywood, if someone gets big enough and famous enough, and they’re not out doing drugs and they’re not womanizing, what do you say about them?” the star says.

Check out the video below to hear Kirstie’s statement on John Travolta. Here’s what she had to say about Patrick Swayze, though she mentions him too in the clip.
