I Had Meltdowns over Not Being Thin like the Other Models, Daisy Lowe Reveals

Daisy Lowe may be a successful model, but that’s not to say that she doesn’t have body image issues. In fact, she reveals in the latest issue of InStyle magazine, it’s not long ago that she couldn’t accept that she’d never be as thin as the other models she was working with.

This is not the first time that Lowe speaks out on body image issues in a bid to draw attention to the fact that the fashion industry needs more real-life-like model instead of size 0 girls.

To InStyle, Daisy confesses she had “private meltdowns” because of her curvier body (curvy, as compared to the body of a size 0 model) and because she couldn’t accept she’d never be as thin as the other girls.

“It’s taken me seven years to get to the point where I can be comfortable with not being as thin as the rest of them,” the model says for the publication.

Hearing that from a woman who’s modeled for Burberry, Agent Provocateur, Chanel and Vivienne Westwood means a lot.

While Daisy is happy to be closer to a real woman’s ideal than other models, she still had to face size 0 girls on a daily basis – and inevitably compare herself with them, she says.

“The public can say, ‘It’s really cool that you’re not conforming to this anorexic ideal,’ but then I still have to go and stand next to all of the other girls,” she explains.

“I’m not saying that I am big, but when you stand next to a beanpole, you’re going to look like a massive tree trunk,” Lowe adds.

It’s only recently that she’s found new confidence in herself and, with it, the strength to accept that she’ll never be like the other models.

“Literally, it’s only in the past six months that I’ve come to terms with it. Before then… it was hard. I used to have private meltdowns all the time,” Lowe explains.

Actually in life being different make you a star, not trying to be someone else. If you are identical to someone else, then you are but an interchangeable part. To invent yourself - to re-invent yourself as needed makes you always in the running. I am very sure Oprah was not a typical show host, Johny Carson was more than just a comedian / host.

As for what men like, in America, I would say they do not want for the skinny twigs look like french models anyway. Shape is good ;)
