Movie is based on a comic book based on Mary Shelly’s classic horror tale

One of the movies that got fans geeking out at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con was “I, Frankenstein,” which promised to breathe new life into Mary Shelly’s classic horror tale of the monster of Dr. Frankenstein.

Now, a first trailer has been released and we can all see for ourselves what the hype was all about.

I have to say, this doesn’t look good. The film is based on a comic book inspired by Shelly’s classic, so don’t expect the Frankenstein monster to be all bad. Or all hideous, for that matter.

In fact, he’s now fighting for humanity, siding with humans in an age-long battle against other demonic creatures, and even romancing one human girl. Believe it or not, that’s not what seems to be ruining the film.

It’s the bad CGI that did it for me and the fact that the trailer plays like any other, generic monster tale we’ve seen this past 10 years.

If a film stars Aaron Eckhart and Bill Nighy, it’d better stand out, and this one doesn’t seem to be able to do that.

We’ll see if I was right on the money when it comes out in theaters, in January 2014. Do you plan on seeing it?
