Couple wants phone exchanged at the Apple store

There’s a post up on Reddit that involves an iPhone 6 dropped in cheese dip and a couple that wants it exchanged at the Apple Store, despite being completely responsible for the damage.

It’s unclear if the phone no longer works properly, but it seems the duo are bent (pun intended) on having it swapped for a new one.

“I dropped my husbands new iPhone 6 in a bowl of cheese dip today,” writes the OP, adding, “and I'm pretty sure he wants a divorce now.”

As expected, the cheese puns started coming in: nacho iPhone, nachogate, cheesy references, etc. The wife then noted, “The bottom half landed in the cheese. We were able to clean it out finally. The speakers are tinny but the headphone jack and charging port work [...]. He's gonna try to exchange it tomorrow.”

Well, unless the pair have AppleCare coverage, we’re pretty sure no Apple Store swaps damaged phones for new ones just like that. The fault needs to be Apple’s, like a design flaw. What are they going to do, accuse Jony Ive of making it too slippery?

Anyway, what do you guys think? Should Apple replace this cheese-dipped phone or shouldn’t they? If this happened to you, would you tell the truth about what happened or would you go inside the store with a grin on your face saying “it just stopped working?”
