The development team at Nintendo in charge of the Zelda universe announces that it is working with partners Tecmo Koei to create a new title called Hyrule Warriors, which will mix Link and Zelda with the Warriors series.

The game is set to launch exclusively on the Wii U at some point in 2014 and it might be only offered in Japan.

Satoru Iwata, the president of Nintendo, says that this is just a spin-off which is exploring some niche gameplay ideas and has no link with the next full installment in the Zelda series.

The name Hyrule Warriors is not final and the two companies say that players will be able to take on the role of Link and other heroes as they fight their way through entire armies of enemies, launching special moves and gaining access to new powers.

It's unclear whether character from the Warriors series will also be included.
