Hynix Semiconductor is hotter than ever as they've claimed that they have developed and sampled the world's fastest and at the same time smallest 512Megabit mobile DRAM. The product meets JEDEC standards and operates at 200MHz similar to DDR400 standard and offers about
half the bandwith of its desktop counterpart.

Of course, the similarities regarding JEDEC's standards don't stop here. Because it uses 32 I/Os, Hynix's 512Mb mobile DDR SDRAM produces 1.6Gbytes (400Mbps x 32) of data in 1 second, an impressive throughput for a memory this size and actually about 1.5 times faster than anything comparable. The latest statement also applies to Hynix products since the chip is also significantly faster than other Hynix products.

Regarding the new product, Hynix said: "As the third generation of mobile phones has emerged, our 512Mb mobile DRAM is expected to offer higher capacity and faster speed solutions, which are required for advanced handsets such as DMB players and display phones. We are almost in the final stage to receive the world's first validation by major mobile chipset companies and we have already received positive response from them."

In addition to improved speed, Hynix's 512Mb mobile DRAM features a size of 8mm x 10mm making it a competitive device when regarding the cellphone and PDA market. Moreover, Hynix is expected to combine future 512Mb mobile DRAM chips with NAND Flash storage in a single multi-chip package (MCP) and they plan to sell the final product to cellphone producers. Providing they manage to keep a low consumption profile and also a small form factor, the new MCP could turn into a big success.
