Hynix Semiconductor recently announced having managed to develop GDDR5 (series five, graphics double-data-rate memory) graphics memory which provides data transfer speeds of 7Gbps. The newly-unveiled GDDR5 offers a 40 percent speed improvement compared to the existing 5Gbps GDDR5 memory. It comes as 1Gb GDDR5 memory modules and its 7Gbps transfer rate translates into up to 28GB of data processed per second with a 32-bit I/O.

The 1Gb GDDR5 Hynix announced is manufactured using the company's 54nm technology. Besides the improved transfer rates, the new memory has also been designed to minimize the power consumption at 1.35V power supply. The JEDEC-standard 1Gb GDDR5 graphics DRAM at 7Gbps is aiming at high-end applications such as PC gaming, gaming consoles and graphics cards.

Hynix Semiconductor expects the new 1Gb GDDR5 delivering 7Gbps transfer rates to help the company maintain its leading position in the graphics DRAM market. The memory can be considered the fastest graphics memory product with the highest density ever. The manufacturer also offers its previously developed 1Gb GDDR5, manufactured under the 66 nanometer process technology.

Hynix also announced that its 1Gb GDDR5 graphics DRAM respects JEDEC standard. Moreover, the company said that it plans to start volume production during the first half of the next year so as to be able to meet the increasing demand for high performance graphics DRAM. High-end users, gamers and enthusiasts will be able to take advantage of Hynix's latest development to leverage their experience to new heights.

Hynix Semiconductor Inc. is based in Icheon, Korea. The company is the worldwide top tier memory semiconductor supplier. Its portfolio includes Dynamic Random Access Memory chips (“DRAMs”) and Flash memory chips, which are offered to a wide range of established international customers.
